
RESULTS & NEXT STEPS
After seven full days of learning, deliberation and trade-off discussions, the Assembly finalized its recommendations for Burnaby's Official Community Plan on June 15, 2024. On July 22, the Assembly presented its recommendations to City Council, who is responsible for final approval of the Official Community Plan.

In April 2025, the City of Burnaby indicated that all 24 of the Burnaby Community Assembly’s recommendations have been fully or partially incorporated into the draft Official Community Plan and other policies. Alongside the release of the draft Official Community Plan, the City provided Assembly Members with a response to each of the Assembly’s Recommendations, including detailed explanations for how each recommendation have been incorporated. In a further step of this notably accountable and transparent process, the Burnaby Community Assembly then considered the City’s response to their original recommendations, and the draft Official Community Plan, and gathered to develop final feedback for the City.The Assembly then presented this final feedback to Burnaby City Council on May 27, 2025, alongside the submission of the Burnaby Community Assembly Reconvening Report.

Final Report of the Burnaby Community Assembly
The Burnaby Community Assembly was a broadly representative group of 40 residents selected by civic lottery to create recommendations for the City of Burnaby’s Official Community Plan under the guiding question: How should Burnaby grow and change by 2050 to create a city where everyone can thrive?

City of Burnaby's Response to Recommendations & Assembly's Final Feedback
The City of Burnaby responded to the Assembly's recommendations, indicating that all 24 were fully or partially incorporated into the draft Official Community Plan and other policies. The City also provided detailed explanations for how each of the recommendations had been incorporated.
The Burnaby Community Assembly reconvened in person on April 26, 2025 to consider the draft Official Community Plan, the City's response to their original recommendations, and to develop final feedback for the City.
The Assembly presented this final feedback to Burnaby City Council on May 27, 2025, and submitted it through the Burnaby Community Assembly Reconvening Report. Please read the report below, which also includes the City's full response to the Assembly's original recommendations.

Appendices to the Burnaby Community Assembly Final Report
The Burnaby Community Assembly Final Report is accompanied by seven appendices. These appendices will support Burnaby residents, and all others who have interest in the development of the Burnaby 2050 Official Community Plan, in understanding the detailed process by which the Assembly Members developed their recommendations.
